03.02.07 - El Segundo HS Coach John Stevenson Records 1000^th Win

 2 March 2007, El Segundo- Baseball coach John Stevenson, age 73 of El Segundo High school in California beat Beverly Hills HS 7-1 on March 2 to become the first high school coach in California to have 1000 wins and only the 7^th overall in the nation to record 1000 or more wins. 

Diamond Sports would like to congratulate Coach Stevenson on his impressive tally of wins.  The 1000^th win came in the El Segundo Tournament and had many El Segundo Baseball alumni on hand as well as friends and families to join in on the celebration.  Coach Stevenson is in his 48^th year of coaching at El Segundo High School.  Stevenson started as the head coach in 1960 when he was 26.  El Segundo’s local paper, The Daily Breeze quoted Stevenson as saying, “I am glad it’s over so we can now get on with the rest of the season.”
