SAN DIEGO – Sept. 27, 2011 – The National Baseball & Softball Expo (NBSE) and the San Diego Sports Commission (SDSC) are proud to announce the addition of softball to the 2012 Expo taking place Jan. 21-22 at its new location; the San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum in Balboa Park. In its second year, NBSE will offer attendees access to more than 90 baseball and softball related booths, innovative new program elements, player autograph signings and skill demonstrations from various former MLB athletes.
NBSE prides itself on being an affordable, family-friendly event offering an interactive experience. “Our goal is to bring the game back to the fans, creating a modern and inexpensive way to engage baseball and softball fans of all ages,” said Alan Botterman, President of National Baseball & Softball Expo. “We started with baseball only in the inaugural Expo and due to popular demand decided to add a softball presence in 2012.”
Morgan Ensberg, former San Diego Padre and MLB All-Star, has been named the honorary chairman for the 2012 NBSE. In his role, Ensberg will give personalized instruction to San Diego youth during events, participate in autograph signings, serve as spokesman for the event, and hold an exclusive meet and greet during the Expo. “It’s wonderful to be a part of the National Baseball & Softball Expo, and assist in its contributions to the community,” said Ensberg. “I look forward to furthering the organization’s commitment to bring baseball & softball back to the fans.”
NBSE is about more than just athletic skill in its new home at the San Diego Hall of Champions. This year’s event will feature a variety of educational elements, including historical aspects of baseball highlighted in the museum’s exhibits. “We are more than excited to be hosting the National Baseball & Softball Expo under our roof,” said President of the San Diego Hall of Champions & San Diego Sports Commission, Alan Kidd. “This event offers so much for the community—from little league players to the baseball and softball mom, which fits perfectly within the Hall’s mission to be a central sports resource.”
Last year’s Expo featured appearances from former and current MLB players such as, Omar Vizquel, Carlos Hernandez, Reggie Smith, Quilvio Veras, Juan Eichelberger, Heath Bell, Mat Latos, Will Venable, Nick Hundley and 1976 NL Cy Young Award winner Randy Jones.
